There have been some recent developments in regards to the introduction of a new public holiday for Victoria (VIC). Confirmed on Wednesday 19th August, via the Victorian Government Gazette,the new public holiday is Friday before the Australian Football League Grand Final (AFL). Effective this year the public holiday will fall on Friday October 2nd, 2015.

This will have implications for all employers that pay employees in Victoria. Be sure to review all the current leave applications to ensure your employees receive this public holiday entitlement. Also factor in the public holiday pay rates for those that are required to work on this day.
